Millie's Tail
Millie and Buster were goofing around a bit at night. They posed nicely on the back of the couch for me after Buster spotted a moth in the mosquito netting. I lifted him up so he could get a closer look and he went bananas. Millie got jealous so I lifted her up too and she sniffed the desperate moth. It got away; I didn't want to kill it because I remember Buster's reaction to the beetle on his birthday. After that they posed for quite a few photos.

Buster's 100-Day Birthday
We celebrated Millie's 100-day anniversary on February 23. This time it was Buster's turn. We'd only realised it would be on Tuesday when we were talking about it this weekend. He got a cake, and we did the same ritual again involving laying a bunch of items out on a sheet and letting him choose one. Which one will he pick?
Also, I taught Buster about death. There was this big ugly beetle flying around the apartment. Millie caught it in her front paws and sent it to the ground. Jung dropped an empty pizza box on it. When I lifted the box to see if the bug was still alive, it was moving its legs but it was nearly dead. Buster saw and had the most hurt expression on his face. When I dropped the pizza box back down and crushed it to death, he looked at me like I was a murderer, and he slapped me with his paw. That night he bit the crap out of my feet while I was trying to sleep.

Goodbye Samia
Samia is moving to the US this Tuesday. She had her going away party on Sunday at her mom's place. It was an all-day party, but I only got there around 5. By the time I started taking pictures it was dark and a lot of people had left.
Her mom's place is pretty crazy. It's a narrow 13-floor building with only one apartment per floor. They had an amazing view of the river. I never did go up to the roof for a look.
Also strangely enough I met three Canadians there (one who I knew before), and the four of us were all from Alberta.

New Building
People have started moving into the new buildings across the street from us. There was a security guard but he didn't stop us. We entered the building facing ours and climbed up to around the tenth floor. I'd like to go back there sometime during the day and get a look from higher up so we can see more of the neighbourhood. Also, Jung noticed how easy it is for people to see into our apartment. We saw our neighbour in his underwear. Maybe now she'll be more careful with the windows.

More Cats
The finalised name is Buster. He has been fitting into our home, usually nicely but sometimes with biting. He seems to enjoy biting Jung especially. Also, he's gotten more used to Millie and will sometimes chase her. She is afraid of him, but doesn't he look just a bit more terrifying than she does?
Tuesday is his 100-day birthday. We're going to throw him a party just like we did for Millie when she turned 100 days old.

Millie vs Buster
I can't say we've finalised his name yet, but Jung keeps calling him that, despite claiming she doesn't like it. It does suit him though.
Anyway, this weekend I had my camera close by so whenever they started fighting I could photograph them without interrupting.

Hamster Cage
The hamster cage was out in the hallway again. I'm not quite sure why they leave their hamsters out approximately one night each week. You never know who could be coming into the building. Of course all our cats are looking for is a kiss through the bars, but there are stray and feral cats out there who could come in and do something worse.

Sick Day
I stayed home on Wednesday because I wasn't feeling good. Jung went out to Caribbean Bay, a waterpark, leaving me alone with the cats. It was a busy day for them. I managed to get them to eat from the same dish, although one of them always hogs the food a bit.

Independence Day Fights
August 15 was a holiday so we stayed home with the cats and watched them play together. Millie likes to bite, which he doesn't like, but otherwise they play together fairly well.

Catnip
I decided to give them catnip to see if they would get along under its influence. It turned out only Millie likes it.

Running Away
We keep this little hatch in the front door open to let cool air in. Millie usually likes sitting next to it. When I first opened it, I discovered to my surprise that Millie could fit through it. That's why I put a piece of tape there. Then on Monday night, while Jung was out, I came looking for the cats to find the tape broken.
I quickly threw on some clothes and ran out after them barefoot. I decided to go down the stairs first, as that was the more risky path. They were exactly one floor below, sitting at the door and wondering why they couldn't get back in. They were both terrified. When Millie saw me she realised they were on the wrong floor and ran up. I picked up the other guy and brought him back.
These pictures are sort of a recreation of their escape. I couldn't get any pictures of Millie getting out because she wouldn't do it again. I know she can fit because I've seen it twice with my own eyes. She has some trouble with her hind legs but she makes it.

Getting Along?
Some progress has made. I've noticed sort of distinct stages in Millie's acceptance of the new cat.
1. Pure hatred, characterised by stalking and hissing.
2. Anger but not hatred, where she only gets mad if he does something like eat or use the litter box.
3. Contempt, where she doesn't let him near her, but otherwise he can live.
4. Dislike, where they playfight and she's a bit rough, but they both get along a little.
We still have a way to go.

New Cat
Does Millie like living with her younger brother? When we brought him home, well, you can see her first reaction. They woke us up a few times that night with Millie's attacks. We got up in the morning and separated them. Millie's younger brother seemed afraid for a while, but then he just stopped reacting to her. If she came over and hissed, he would lie down and start licking himself. I guess she slowly lost the urge to attack him. She stopped stalking him as much, and just now she walked up to him while he was sleeping and sniffed him without any agitation. Probably by the time we go to work on Monday they'll be peaceful (at least most of the time).

New Cat
I picked up our new cat on Friday after work. We decided it would be best to spend as much of the weekend together as possible, so Millie would have more time to get used to the new cat before we leave them alone together.
I wrapped him in a towel and took him back in a taxi.

The Week
There are two things I need to photograph in my building. The people living below us have a hamster cage with two tiny hamsters living in it. Sometimes they leave it outside their front door in the stairwell, I guess because the air is cooler. One night I brought Millie down to see the hamsters. She was curious, they were curious, leading to one of the hamsters touching noses with Millie through the bars. It looked like they could be friends. Of course I don't want the hamster owners to know.
There's an old birdcage on the roof. I want to get funny pictures with it.
Tomorrow we're getting our new cat. The search for a name continues (she didn't like Steve French).

Jung's Family
It's been a long time since I've seen Jung's family. This was the first time I met her sister Jin's husband. He's in a heavy metal band called Downhell, and it turns out he knows a bunch of my friends in the hardcore scene. He's miraculously turned Jin into a metalhead, which is something I never would have imagined.

Millie's Bath
Millie was suffering so much, we decided to give her a bath. She really didn't like it, but she didn't resist beyond letting out a loud, betrayed meow. Afterwards, she seemed a lot more comfortable, and licked herself all day long. I didn't take any pictures of the bath itself of course, but afterwards it was easy to whip out the camera.

Hot Day
Saturday was the first day in a while I'd stayed home, and thus was not in my very air conditioned office during the afternoon. It was also apparently the hottest day of the year so far. The three of us had a lot of trouble coping with the weather. I stayed in front of the fan all day, Jung took several cold showers, and Millie panted.

The Week
I took a few pictures over the course of the week and put them together in this gallery. These are all over the course of a few days.
